This helps add that finishing touch that makes your guests feel like they're opening a present (because they are!). There are so many options here, we’ll structure the post a little differently and talk about the most common ones. Read on to find out the best wrap for you!

Modern Wedding Giveaway

We’ve got a treat for you today to briefly interrupt the All About Series - don’t worry, it’ll resume tomorrow with All About Envelope Liners! Today, though, it’s giveaway time!!!

Artisan Books sent me a copy of their new book, Modern Wedding: Creating a Celebration That Looks + Feels Like You by Kelsey McKinnon, and they sent me one to give away to you all as well!

modern wedding planner

Did any of you know that I started out in wedding planning before stationery? I thought that was what I wanted to do with my life, but once I started doing stationery I had to make a choice. Running 2 separate businesses was not good for my mental health or my schedule! Now that it’s not for money, I absolutely love chatting wedding planning tips + tricks whenever I can, so this book was a breath of fresh air.

Of course, I turned to the stationery section first thing - and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was section Number 1!!! Starting with creating your guest list, Modern Wedding has tons of the same tips and tricks I offer to my clients every day.

The photos are incredible, from some of my favorite designers, including Stephanie Fishwick, Kaela Rawson, and Happy Menocal on the stationery side. The other vendors included are all A-list, from Mindy Rice to Bloom and Plume, and so many talented people in this industry - seriously, if you want to be inspired by anyone, this is the collection of artists to choose.

…and my favorite part of the entire book? It doesn’t mention pricing AT ALL. There's not one number, percentage, dollar amount that I could find. Because the emphasis here isn’t on your budget or how much you’re spending. The emphasis is on creating a wedding that feels like you. If you haven’t checked out our Home Page recently, that same sentiment is all over it, because that’s what matters to us too!

Other highlights for me included the Color Story section (this yellow inspiration, of course!), this handy description of traditional cultural wedding customs, and this stunning dress! This would be an amazing gift for your recently-engaged friends, and you get a cake knife and server set as well in the giveaway.

Alright, so how do you win?

If you came here it’s probably because you already saw our post on Instagram about winning your copy! You can get an additional entry if you comment below, and tell us what you’re most excited about for planning your wedding (or helping your friend plan theirs).

From setting your timeline to tasting your cake, be prepared for it all! One (1) winner receives:

Giveaway open to US addresses only.

Prizing and samples provided by Artisan Books.

From the Publisher: “The book unpacks every element of a wedding—stationery, attire, seating plans, flowers and tablescapes, food and drink, gifts—with examples that will appeal to couples who care about how things are made but are not overly influenced by trends. The emphasis is on natural surroundings, seasonal flowers and food, modern dresses, minimalist ceremony structures, and naked cakes. Photographs of real weddings—“case studies” like a destination fete in Tuscany, a house party in Brooklyn, and a New Agey revel in Kauai—show how all the pieces can come together into a unique and expressive whole. Extensive practical information and resources give readers access to all the help they need for their own unique celebration.”

All About Reply Cards

All About Reply Cards

We sent out over 1,200 reply cards in 2018, and are hoping to do more in 2019. The reply card is an often-overlooked piece of the invitation suite - we tend to stick with the typical wording and design and move on to more “exciting” parts. The truth is, however, that the reply card is the only conversational portion of the suite - the only piece that sends information to your guests and also receives information from your guest - so don’t discount the value of the RSVP card! It can save you loads of headache as well as help with your budget if you use it properly!

Part 2 of our All About series is here! You probably think we talk a lot about wedding invitations, so why do we need a blog about it? But often when we say “wedding invitations” we’re referring to the whole suite, so today we’re actually just focusing on the Invitation itself. In the next few weeks, we’ll cover all the other pieces so you can put all this knowledge together for one full suite - but today, it’s just the Star of the Show!!!

Budget Series | Things that will Cost you on Wedding Day

Are you all loving the Budget Series? We didn’t want to provide a percentage list, because those are everywhere, none of them are accurate, and none of them really account for your priorities. Probably everyone would like at least a tiny bit more wedding money, but the perfect wedding is about weighing all the options and deciding what is right for you and your fiancé. You may think that the costs are all finished on the wedding day, but there are actually quite a few ways that you can accidentally incur additional costs on the wedding day. We have put together a quick list of those for you, and provided some tips that will help you avoid getting an extra bill while you’re off on your honeymoon!

Budget Series | The Same Wedding Invitations at Different Price Levels

Of course we had to include a budget series post on invitations! We have a great post about WHY invitations cost what they do, but a lot of couples ask me the question “What can we do with our budget?” so I thought we’d help answer that today! There are so many misleading posts out there - you’ll find The Knot saying that average cost is around $500, and then Brides tells us that the average couple spends $5,000 - $8,000, so it’s hard to know what to believe. Keep on scrolling for an example of what you can get at a few different price points!

4 Common Misconceptions about Collaborating

4 Common Misconceptions about Collaborating

"Collaboration" can mean SO many different things in the creative world - sometimes it means co-writing a blog post, sometimes it means creating a piece with another creative who has different expertise, and sometimes, as we all know, it can mean "give me your time and energy for free". This last one has become all-too-prevalent for many artists, so our alarm bells go off as soon as we see the word "collaborate". However, I have been asked to collaborate and asked others to collaborate in efforts that have been mutually beneficial for all parties involved - this is actually how I landed a mention in People last year! I am a firm believer in the power of collaboration, so I wanted to share some common misconceptions about collaborating and what the truth really is. If you are planning a collaboration soon, then these are some vital tips to be aware of to make sure you get the most out of it (and don't set off any of those alarm bells with your fellow creatives!).

Post Office Woes and How to Avoid Them when Mailing Wedding Invitations

Post Office Woes and How to Avoid Them when Mailing Wedding Invitations

Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night...though this isn’t the Post Office’s official motto (as you may have thought!), it sounds pretty serious. In truth, the Post Office is an amazing service that we have here in the United States. They process 493.4 million pieces of mail every single day. That’s over 5,700 piece every second. That’s insane - but also absolutely incredible, and I am constantly in awe of them.

You may not have a ton of contact with the post office outside of a few birthday cards once a year, but if you are planning a wedding, get ready to be extra friendly with your mailbox for a while. Most stationery designers have a love/hate relationship with the US Post Office, and I tend to err on the side of love (for evidence, see above. 493.4 million!!!). I currently have a postman who goes above and beyond the call of duty for me, and always has a great attitude - and some nice pats for my dog, which doesn’t hurt! However, you have probably started hearing horror stories about missing Save the Dates or invitations going rogue. Out of almost 500 million pieces every day, sometimes some pieces slip through the cracks, so we put together a list of the most common Post Office Woes and how to avoid them when mailing your wedding invitations!
